A gluten-free brownie mix that won a major trade show award (for natural/health foods) contains 17 grams sugar per serving and 1 gram fiber.
While the taste quality of gluten-free baked goods has improved, the nutritional attributes can be less than impressive. This brownie has about 4 teaspoons of sugar in each serving, and very little fiber, despite containing cocoa (chocolate contains a fair amount of fiber, but apparently this brownie mix doesn't contain much chocolate). Use of refined rice flour and potato starch also contribute to low fiber and protein content. An award-winning, natural foods baked good should be using more whole grains and less sugar. Seasonings such as vanilla and cinnamon can go a long way in giving a sweeter flavor with less sugar.
